Quick Start Guide
Using the Interactive Features of the Digital SAT Math Orange Books and Associated Resources:
The Answer Bar Controls:
The Answer Bar is above every practice problem.
- To view a written explanation for a problem, click the question mark button on the problem's title bar.
- To watch a video explanation for a problem, click the play button on the problem's title bar.
- To view and interact with a graphical explanation and demonstration of how to use the Digital SAT's built-in graphing calculator to solve a problem, click the graph button on the problem's title bar.
- To jump to the sub-topic that pertains to a problem, click the orange subtopic number on the right end of the problem's title bar.
Inline Hypertext Features:
To view and interact with a graphical representation and explanation of a concept, click the orange text, expression, or equation in the book's discussion of a concept or technique:
To view a topic or sub-topic in the SAT Math Topic Explorer (SMTEx™), click the orange topic or sub-topic name:
To view a list of all real-test problems from released SATs that pertain to a sub-topic, click the SMTEx button in the Related Problems box at the end of any section. SMTEx will open to the selected topic or sub-topic and display a list of all relevant problems:
To open the Autoscoring Answer Form (AAF) for a section or chapter quiz, click the orange title of the quiz:
Navigation, Display, and Annotating:
- To turn pages in the book, you can:
- click on the and buttons to the left and right of the book
- When the book is zoomed out, you can also:
- Use the arrow keys on your keyboard
- Swipe the pages with the cursor or your finger
- To go to a specific page, you can:
- Enter the page number in the page number box and hit Enter
- Select the page from the Thumbnail pane if shown
- Click on the page edges to go to the page number displayed when hovering
- To go to a specific section of the book, you can:
- Use the Table of Contents pane if displayed
- Click on an entry in the Table of Contents within the book
- To jump to the front or back cover, click the or button on the bottom-left and bottom-right
- To search for something in the book, use the Search tool
The Control Strip and Related Functions:
The control strip is located below the book, in the center of the window.
- To zoom in, you can:
- Click the zoom magnifying glass button on the control strip to zoom into the top-left of the page at the last zoom level
- Double click on a page to zoom into that area at the last zoom level
- Pinch-zoom (on touch devices)
- You can adjust the zoom level by:
- Dragging the zoom-level slider that appears at the bottom of the book when zoomed in
- Pinch-zooming (on touch devices)
- To zoom out to show the whole book, you can:
- Click the zoom magnifying glass button on the control strip
- Double-click anywhere on a page
- Pinch-zoom all the way out
- To view the book full-screen, click the fullscreen button on the control strip
- To exit fullscreen view:
- Hit Escape
- Move your cursor to the top of the screen and click the Close button that slides down
- Click the exit-fullscreen button on the control strip
- To show the thumbnail pane, click the Thumbnails button on the control strip
- To show the Table of Contents pane, click the Table of Contents button on the control strip
- To show the Notes pane, click the Notes button on the control strip
- To turn that cool page-turning sound on or off, click the Toggle Sound button on the control strip
- To close the displayed pane:
- Click the Close button on the top-right of the pane, or click the control strip button corresponding to the currently displayed pane
- To add a private note, click the Add Note button on the top-right
- To open the graphing calculator in a new tab, click the button on the top right
The Left Pane:
The left pane can optionally display the clickable Table of Contents, the page thumbnail strip, or the Notes list.
The Table of Contents:
The Table of Contents pane provides a hierarchical, clickable navigation pane for rapid access to any topic, sub-topic, or sub-sub-topic in the Orange Book.
The Thumbnail Strip:
The Thumbnail Strip shows a sequence of page thumbnails; clicking on a page thumbnail flips the Orange Book to the corresponding page.
The Notes List:
The Notes List shows your private annotations in page-number order. Clicking on a note will flip the book to the corresponding page.
Your notes are private. They are only stored in your browser's cookies and thus will only be visible when you view the Orange Book in the same browser environment where you made the notes. If you clear your browser's cache, your notes will be removed.
